Pressemitteilung Nr. 031 vom 21.02.2019 Finding Committee Looking for New Artistic Director for Munich`s Haus der Kunst - Bavarian State Minister of Science and the Arts Bernd Sibler announces members - internationally renowned experts
MUNICH. They will look for a new artistic director for the Haus der Kunst: the members of the finding committee are set, as Bavarian State Minister of the Arts and chairman of the supervisory board of the Haus der Kunst Bernd Sibler announced in Munich today. The finding committee, set up by the expert commission of the Haus der Kunst, comprises internationally renowned personalities:
- Prof. Dr. Susanne Gaensheimer, director of the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen
- Nina Zimmer, director of the Museum of Fine Arts Bern / Zentrum Paul Klee
- Daniel Birnbaum, former director of the Moderna Museet in Stockholm and director of research hub and curatorial laboratory Acute Art in London
- Sir Nicholas Serota, former director of Tate, in London
- Doryun Chong, Deputy Director, Curatorial and Chief Curator of M+, Hong Kong.
State Minister of the Arts Sibler thanked the members of the finding committee for their expert guidance on looking for a new artistic director. “With their support we will find a proven expert, who is willing to rise to the challenges of the Haus der Kunst caught between international radiance and a strong base in the region”, Sibler expressed his confidence.
Wanted: proper expertise, extensive network in the art and museum scene, management experience and sensitivity
According to the expert commission the future artistic director should be skilled in modern and contemporary arts, have an extensive network in the international art and museum scene, possess management experience and knowledge of the Haus der Kunst’s history and of the city of Munich.
The appointment procedure will take its time, added Sibler. „With the necessary degree of calmness we want to find a perfectly qualified expert. The finding committee can take all the time it needs.“ There is no fixed date set for the appointment of the new artistic director.
Minister of the arts and chairman of the supervisory board of the Haus der Kunst Sibler aims at maintaining and developing the „character, profile and high reputation of the Haus der Kunst with the new artistic director“.
Until the new artistic director is appointed, the three-member expert commission will support the curatorial team and play an advisory and monitoring role concerning both content and feasibility of planned projects.
